On February 13, 2023, Suzhou Yuneng Magic Cube and Zhejiang Changyi Sodium Battery signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Shaoxing, Zhejiang. The two parties agreed to engage in deep collaboration on "the research and development and industrialization of sodium-ion energy storage products." Leveraging their respective strengths, they will jointly advance the R&D and commercial application of sodium batteries in the energy storage sector. Together, they will focus on co-developing innovative sodium battery products and promoting their large-scale industrialization, working hand-in-hand to accelerate the widespread adoption of sodium-based energy storage solutions in key markets—including grid-scale energy storage, commercial and industrial energy storage, mobile energy storage, and residential energy storage systems.
The sodium-based energy storage system will be the next-generation optimal alternative to lithium-ion systems. Compared to lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries boast advantages such as abundant material resources, lower costs, higher discharge rates, a wider operating temperature range, and enhanced safety—making them well-suited for extensive applications in the energy storage sector. As a result, they have already been included in the key special project on "Energy Storage and Smart Grid Technologies" under China's 14th Five-Year Plan. This strategic collaboration between the two parties will firmly align with the nation’s dual-carbon development strategy, relentlessly pursuing a path of innovative growth.
